Janazah services
Losing someone is hard enough without navigating an unfamiliar system. ICASA volunteers provide free, end-to-end Islamic funeral support to families across Melbourne — from the first phone call to the burial and the days after it.
Need help now?
Email [email protected] with the deceased's name, your name and your phone number. A coordinator will call you back.
1. Contact us immediately
Email us as soon as a death occurs, at home or in hospital. A volunteer coordinator responds and stays with the family as a single point of contact through the whole process.
2. Documentation and release
We help obtain the medical certificate of cause of death, liaise with hospital staff or the coroner if a referral applies, and work to have the body released promptly so burial is not delayed.
3. Ghusl and kafan
Trained male and female volunteers perform the ritual washing and shrouding at a facility with proper amenities, observing modesty, correct sequence and the family's wishes throughout.
4. Salat al-Janazah
We arrange the funeral prayer at a local mosque or at the cemetery, confirm the imam, and notify the community so the congregation is present.
5. Burial
We book the Muslim section of an appropriate Melbourne cemetery, coordinate transport, grave preparation and the correct orientation of the grave, and guide relatives at the graveside.
6. After the burial
Support does not end at the grave. We help with condolence gatherings, explain what paperwork remains, and connect the family with welfare or counselling help if needed.
There is never a charge to the family
Costs — shrouds, transport, cemetery fees, equipment — are covered by community donations in AUD. Every contribution to ICASA goes to this cause.
