About us

ICASA stands for the Islamic Community And Support Association. We are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit charity organisation based in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Our story

A large ICASA community function in a Melbourne reception hall
One of our annual community functions in Melbourne.

ICASA began as a Sri Lankan cause. A small group of Sri Lankan Muslim families who had settled in Melbourne noticed the same gaps again and again: a family losing a loved one with no one to guide them through an Islamic burial in an unfamiliar system, elders spending Eid alone, and young people with no community space of their own. Rather than wait for an institution to solve it, they organised themselves — a phone tree, a roster, and a shared commitment that no family in our community would face a burial or a hardship without help.

From that Sri Lankan foundation, ICASA has grown into an association that serves the wider Muslim community of Melbourne regardless of background or country of origin. Our Janazah service is the heart of the work: we accompany families from the moment of passing through ghusl, kafan, the janazah prayer and burial, dealing with hospitals, coroners, funeral providers and cemeteries so the family can grieve. Alongside it we run Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha breakfasts, an annual eight-a-side hardball cricket tournament for our youth, and quiet welfare support for households under financial or personal pressure.

Today ICASA connects 400+ community members and hosts 5+ annual gatherings. There are no salaries and no offices — every dollar donated goes into service delivery, and every hour is given freely by community volunteers. If you would like to be part of it, we would be glad to hear from you.
